How to Reduce Condensation in RVs

by Staff Ashley and Brittany 1 year ago

Condensation is a common problem in RVs, especially in colder climates or during times of high humidity. Here are some tips to help reduce condensation in your RV:

  • Use ventilation: Use the ventilation system in your RV to help circulate the air and reduce moisture buildup. Use the vent fan in the bathroom and kitchen when cooking, showering, or washing dishes.

  • Use dehumidifiers: Portable dehumidifiers can be used to remove excess moisture from the air. There are also RV-specific dehumidifiers available that are designed for use in smaller spaces.

  • Keep windows and doors closed: While it may be tempting to leave windows and doors open for fresh air, this can increase RV moisture levels. Keep windows and doors closed when it is humid or when it is raining outside.

  • Use moisture absorbers:  You can use moisture-absorbing products such as desiccant bags, silica gel, or moisture-absorbing crystals to absorb excess moisture in the air. These products can be placed in different areas of your RV, such as closets, cabinets, and storage areas. Moisture absorbers, such as DampRid, can be placed throughout the RV to help absorb excess moisture from the air.

  • Insulate your RV: Proper insulation can help reduce the amount of condensation that forms inside your RV. Make sure your RV is properly insulated, and consider adding additional insulation if necessary.

  • Monitor humidity levels: Use a hygrometer to monitor the humidity levels inside your RV. Ideally, you want to maintain a 30-50% humidity level.

  • Cook and Shower Wisely: Cooking and showering can add a lot of moisture to the air. Ensure to use exhaust fans while cooking and showering to remove moisture from the air.

  • Wipe Down Surfaces: Regularly wipe down surfaces where moisture tends to collect, such as windows and walls, to prevent mold and mildew growth.

By following these tips, you can help reduce condensation in your RV and create a more comfortable living environment.
